HOW TO GET KIDS TO READ AND INCREASE THEIR READING LEVEL AND READING SPEED WITH COMIC BOOKS

1. Make Reading Fun! The first step to our system is to surprise your kid with some awesome comic books one day in the mail and then be excited about them with your kid. Start looking through them (check the content to see if they are appropriate for your parenting style) and have fun talking about them. Then let your child find a special place to store them. If you feel you need to incentivize them to read, offer them a small reward upon completing the entire stack of comic books! Remember, it is psychologically important to let your child make these choices.

2. Set Aside Time for Reading and join in too if you think that will help. It could become a great bonding experience that gets your kid to read.

3. Ask Questions about the story they are reading. Engage with them about whatever comic book they are reading. You can ask them about the characters and their favorites. You can mention that their are comic cons where comic book lovers of all types come together to have fun and celebrate their favorite comic books.

4. Be Part of a Challenge. Summer is a key time for organizations and libraries to run reading challenges for kids. It’s definitely worth checking out because many people need that added push to get rolling and seeing other kids involved could give them extra motivation to read their comics! Everyone wants to be in the know about their favorite superheroes!

Another option is to create your own family reading challenge.  Maybe if each family member reads a certain number of comic books each week, everyone can do something fun together on the weekend like go to the comic con, have friends over, or out to eat!? The reward options are endless!

10 REASONS WHY READING IS IMPORTANT FOR KIDS AND HOW COMIC BOOKS HELP KIDS READ BETTER

1. It expands their vocabulary.

While reading, they might come across words they have never heard before – prompting them to find out what they mean using google or a dictionary. As a result, they add it to their vocabulary by using it in school assignments.

2. It makes them better at it.

Practice makes perfect, as the saying goes. The best way to get better at reading is just to do it and comic books help!

3. reading Comics helps build independence and self-confidence.

As kids learn that they no longer have to rely on their parents to read books to them, they develop a sense of independence. Through reading comic books, they can begin to understand the world on their own.

4. Reading helps keep them safe.

Traffic signs have words and warning labels often have more comples words that are often in comic books. Reading comic books regularly allows kids to understand when something says it could harm them.

5. Comic Books help kids make sense of the world around them.

As they learn to read they are able to determine what things around them say and what people mean when they use slang or sarcasm. Being able to read people’s emotions and social cues helps them understand what is what and the purpose or intent of a statement might be.

6. Reading Comic Books leads to their future academic success.

A child must be able to read in order to progress through school with high grades. Reading is essential to following the instructions on the test and being able to even understand or answer the questions.

7. Reading Comics enhances their imagination.

As a child reads comic books, they can begin to imagine where the characters are and how characters, actions, and events all connect together. They might even create their own little world, as well. Reading comics enhances their imagination by forcing them to critically think about how everything is connected across multiple universes.

8. Comic Books entertain kids.

It gives kids something good to do – especially once they can start reading complete volumes, forcing them to seamlessly get into their imagination and therefore, really get into the comic book series as well.

9. It improves their grammar.

Through reading comic books, they can see how the author composed their sentence structure and grammar in coordination with the visuals on the page. This can also help improve their communication skills as they determine how it should be read using clues such as punctuation.

10. Reading comics improves their writing skills.

Because reading helps improve their vocabulary, communication, and grammar skills, it ultimately improves their writing skills as well.

Reading is essential to just about everything in life – from cooking to passing tests to just getting through college and onto a successful career. It is important to start at a young age and teach your child the value of reading so they will grow to practice it often and value their ability to do so.

Now, go grab a good comic book and your child and get to reading together! And if your child really loves reading, why not get them to write their own comic book story?
